VIRGIN GORDA, British Virgin Islands (March 25, 2024) — World-class tennis stars Monica Puig, Marcos Baghdatis, Christina McHale, and Darian King have committed to participate in the inaugural BVI Cup Presented by Rosewood Little Dix Bay.

The intimate and exclusive invitational will be held at the legendary luxury Rosewood Little Dix Bay resort on Virgin Gorda on May 17-21, 2024.

The event features a five-day VIP experience, which includes professional men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles tennis matches; a men’s and women’s Pro-Am, which gives guests an opportunity to play with the pros; and an exclusive VIP Players Party.

A variety of sponsorship, hospitality, lodging opportunities, and a limited number of VIP packages are available now at BVIcup.com.

The event is part of Rosewood Little Dix Bay’s 60th anniversary celebration, taking place over the course of 2024. Originally founded by conservationist Laurance Rockefeller on January 18, 1964, Rosewood Little Dix Bay has long been regarded as one of the world’s greatest island retreats. Set across 500 acres of pristine private beachfront and the breathtaking flora and fauna, the resort has evolved to offer a unique array of amenities and experiences, including a comprehensive tennis program that has been a favorite of guests over the years. Given that the resort is now in a milestone anniversary year, it is the opportune time to host a celebration of a sport that has become a part of the resort’s unique identity, while simultaneously bringing a world-class athletic event to the British Virgin Islands.

“Sixty years is an incredible milestone that we wanted to celebrate with a world-class event that represented the current interests of our guests,” said Andreas Pade, Managing Director of Rosewood Little Dix Bay. “Our tennis courts have become a beloved part of the resort experience and provide the perfect backdrop for a rousing match in a truly unique setting. We look forward to welcoming tennis enthusiasts from around the world to experience this special affair and hope to do so for years to come.”

From the producers of the Hawaii Open and the Waikiki Cup, the BVI Cup Presented by Rosewood Little Dix Bay promises to bring a one-of-a-kind sports experience.

“We are so excited to bring world-class tennis for the community and visitors alike to this beautiful locale,” said Ben Goldsmith and Kyla Goldsmith, event producers. “Rosewood Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands is already a dream destination, and now, we hope the bonus of a premier tennis event will be an added reason to come and experience the beauty and incredible hospitality of this country.”

Monica Puig earned Puerto Rico’s first gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, after which he obtained her singles career-high ranking of No. 27. In 2011, she advanced to the final of two junior Grand Slams — the Australian Open and Roland Garros. In 2014, she also became the first player representing Puerto Rico to win a WTA Tour singles title in Strasbourg.

Marcos Baghdatis achieved his singles career-high of No. 8 in 2006 after his successful run to the Australian Open finals. Then 20 years old, the Cypriot beat No. 3 seed Andy Roddick in the Round of 16 in four sets, ultimately being defeated in the finals by No. 1 seed, Roger Federer. He has won four ATP Tour titles.

Christina McHale won one singles career title in 2016 in Tokyo and two doubles career titles in 2016 in Hobart and Tianjin. She was the youngest member of the 2012 Olympic Games team representing the United States in London.

Darian King was the first player from Barbados to play an ATP match when he competed in Washington in 2015, and the first player from his country to play in a Grand Slam main draw match in the 2017 U.S. Open.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay’s exceptional tennis facilities provide a wonderful opportunity for guests to play their favorite sport while on vacation, and throughout its tenure the resort has only seen interest in tennis grow amongst its guests. In fact, as part of its triumphant reopening after a complete renovation in 2020, the resort unveiled a full tennis center. Surrounded by tropical gardens and verdant hillsides, the property’s six tennis courts will play host to The BVI Cup, blending paradise with athletic performance. This exciting event will be a meaningful part of a full range of 60th-anniversary festivities the resort is honoring its many years of existence with a calendar of bespoke programs and partnerships, all meant to recognize the many chapters in the property’s history.
